Highlights
"Canada is a great country and Canadians deserve an accountable
government that gets things done."
Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister
of Canada.
Turning a New Leaf
It’s time to move Canada forward.
Canadians have told us they want a government with clear priorities.
- A government that is accountable.
- A government that delivers real benefits to ordinary working people and
their families.
- A government that works cooperatively with the provinces and
territories.
- A government that defends and advances Canada’s interests in the
world.
"The Government’s agenda is focused. We will not try to do all things
at once but we will work hard to get results and earn your trust.”
Five Priorities
The Speech from the Throne laid out the five key priorities for
Canada’s new government. We will:
- Clean up Ottawa by introducing and passing the Federal
Accountability Act
- Lower taxes for all Canadians by cutting the GST
- Ensure safe communities by tackling gun, gang and drug crime
- Give parents a $1,200 annual allowance for each child under six, and
help create thousands of new child care spaces
- Work with the provinces and territories to establish a patient wait
times guarantee
