Stephen Joseph Harper (Conservative Party of Canada) was sworn in as Canada’s 22nd Prime Minister on February 6, 2006, as the head of a minority government. Before serving as Prime Minister, Mr. Harper was Leader of the Opposition in the House of Commons from 2002 until 2006. He is an economist and was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1993. Stephen Harper was born on April 30, 1959, in Toronto, Ontario.
