Community Futures Development Corporations in Alberta

PDF Version (109K) PDF

Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) take a grassroots approach to community and economic development outside major cities.  Each of the 90 CFDCs across Western Canada deliver a variety of services, ranging from strategic economic planning, technical and advisory services to businesses, loans to small and medium-sized businesses, self-employment assistance programs and services targeted to youth and entrepreneurs with disabilities.

The Community Futures Network Society of Alberta (CFNSA) is designed to support 27 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) in Alberta. This organization promotes the Community Futures program internally and externally, not the specific CFDCs. It also provides support services which include developing more global contacts and programs to benefit all CFDCs.

CFDCs work with local communities and their agencies and organizations to:

  • Develop long-term community economic development strategies and plans
  • Co-ordinate resources to implement development plans
  • Promote the region and its economic opportunities

CFDCs support economic development by helping entrepreneurs to:

  • Prepare and assess business plans
  • Provide business and market information
  • Provide business loans:
    • Standard Loan (up to $125,000)
    • Entrepreneurs with Disabilities (up to $125,000)
    • Western Youth Entrepreneur Program (up to $25,000)
