Community Futures Development Corporations in Manitoba

PDF Version (111K) PDF

Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) take a grassroots approach to community and economic development outside major urban cities.  Each of the 90 CFDCs across Western Canada deliver a variety of services, ranging from strategic economic planning, technical and advisory services to businesses, loans to small and medium-sized businesses, self-employment assistance programs and services targeted to youth and entrepreneurs with disabilities.

Community Futures Partners of Manitoba Inc. (CFPM) is designed to support the 16 CFDCs established in rural and northern Manitoba.  It promotes the Community Futures program. It helps to develop provincial and inter-provincial networks.  It also fosters communication with the volunteer boards that guide the Community Futures program at the local level.

CFDCs work with local communities and their organizations to:

  • Develop long-term economic development strategies and plans.
  • Coordinate resources to implement development plans.
  • Promote the region and its economic opportunities.

CFDCs support the economic development process by helping entrepreneurs to:

  • Prepare and assess business plans
  • Provide business and market information
  • Provide business loans:
    • Standard Loan (up to $125,000)
    • Entrepreneurs with Disabilities (up to $125,000)
    • Western Youth Entrepreneur Program (up to $25,000)
