Martensville, Saskatchewan — The Martensville Centennial Community Centre opened its doors to the public today, as the last finishing touches were completed.
With a contribution of $107,300 from the Canada Celebrates Saskatchewan Centennial Initiative, the newly constructed multi-purpose facility was outfitted with a full complement of kitchen appliances, tables and chairs, and a stage with divider curtain for drama and dance recitals.
“This new facility provides our community with additional space to host recreational and cultural events,” said Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin on behalf of the Honourable Carol Skelton, Minister of National Revenue and Minister of Western Economic Diversification. “The Government commitment to create stronger and healthier communities includes new infrastructure where people can meet, nurture local talent and enjoy leisure activities.”
Canada Celebrates Saskatchewan was a community-based, grassroots initiative designed to commemorate Saskatchewan’s 100th birthday. A province-wide initiative, it enabled communities to undertake capital projects to improve or upgrade civic facilities and create a permanent legacy of the province’s centennial for future generations.
