Appendix A Detailed Survey Findings
Figure 1 describes the frequency of partnership arrangements between the members and other organizations. As shown above:
- Ninety-three (93) per cent of survey respondents report partnerships with other CFDCs.
- Fourteen (14) per cent of the members established partnerships with other organizations.
Figure 2 describe the relationships between CFDCs. According to the results:
- Eighty-two (82) per cent of all respondents agree that CFDCs regularly exchange business information.
- A majority agree that network members share best practices about community economic development (74 per cent), share best practices about loan management (74 per cent) and that the CFDCs meet regularly to improve their services (77 per cent).
- Sixty-one (61) per cent agree that they regularly exchange information with respect to training and counseling.
Figure 3 describes the relationship between network members. The results show the following:
- According to the survey results, 65 per cent of respondents agree that their organization and other members of the network regularly exchange information (69 per cent), that CFDCs and other members of the network meet regularly to improve services (64 per cent), and that all networks regularly refer clients to each other (61 per cent).
- Only 48 per cent agree that the networks work cooperatively to minimize duplications between them and that WCBSN members share a consistent approach to business and economic development (49 per cent).
Participants were asked questions on the relationships between their network members and WD. According to the survey results:
- Overall the respondents are generally satisfied with the relationship between their organization and WD, except in the area of funding with only 21 per cent agreeing that funding met their basic operational needs.
- An overwhelming 91 per cent agree that there is an ongoing need for a pan western association of CFDCs.
- Eighty-five (85) per cent agree that WD staff was available to help interpret the terms and conditions of the contribution agreement between their organization and WD. However, only 61 per cent were satisfied with the terms and conditions of the agreement.
Figure 5 provides additional survey information about the perceived relationship between the members and WD. As shown above:
- A strong majority agreed that their organization had the capacity to produce quarterly reports in a timely manner and that their organization regularly contacts WD for support and information (80 per cent and 75 per cent, respectively).
- A smaller percentage of respondents (64 per cent) agreed that the quarterly reports provided to WD reflect the achievements of their organization, and that WD is effective in a management support role (61 per cent).
