Appendix C Survey Findings British Columbia

Figure 1: Percentage of Members with partnerships with... British Columbia

Figure 1 describes the frequency of partnership arrangements between the members and other organizations. As shown above:

  • One hundred (100) per cent of survey respondents reported partnerships with business associations.
  • The percentage of members that have partnerships with other federal government departments, HRDC, municipalities, the provincial government and other CFDCs is also relatively high, varying from 83 per cent to 91 per cent.
  • Fifty-seven (57) per cent of members established partnerships with CBSCs, and a four per cent with other organizations.

Figure 2 describes the relationships between CFDCs. According to the results:

  • The majority of respondents agree that CFDCs regularly exchange business information (78 per cent) and that CFDCs share best practices about community economic development (74 per cent).
  • A smaller percentage of respondents agree that network members share best practices about loan management (65 per cent) and that the CFDCs meet regularly to improve their services (57 per cent).
  • Forty-four (44) per cent agree that CFDCs share best practices about client training/counseling.

Figure 3 further describes the relationship between network members. The results show the following:

  • Fifty-six (56) per cent agreed that CFDCs and other members of the network meet regularly to improve services.
  • Less than half of the survey respondents agreed that all networks regularly refer clients to each other (36 per cent); WCBSN members share a consistent approach to business and economic development (44 per cent); work cooperatively to minimize duplications between them (46 per cent); and that their organization and other members of the network regularly exchange information (48 per cent).

Participants were asked questions on the relationships between their network members and WD. According to the survey results:

  • Only 22 per cent of survey respondents agreed that WD funding met the basic operational needs of their organizations.
  • The large majority, 91 per cent, agrees that there is an ongoing need for a pan western association of CFDCs.
  • Seventy-four (74) per cent agrees that WD staff was available to help interpret the terms and conditions of the contribution agreement between their organization and WD.
  • Only a minority of respondents (39 per cent) agreed that the terms and conditions of the agreement between their organization and WD were appropriate

Figure 5 provides additional survey information about relationships between network members and WD. As shown above:

  • Seventy-eight (78) per cent agreed that their organization had the capacity to produce quarterly reports in a timely manner, while a smaller percentage (57 per cent) agreed that these reports reflected the achievements of their organizations.
  • Seventy-four (74) per cent agreed that they regularly contacted WD for support and information. Sixty-one (61) per cent agreed that WD was effective in providing support for the management of our organization.
