Research Labs and Facilities

Defence R&D; Canada is equipped with a wide range of innovative and state of the art facilities and labs to conduct its R&D;, from outdoor firing ranges to human centrifuges. Each of its research centres is equipped with a unique series of labs and facilities in step with their areas of expertise.

Most Defence R&D; Canada facilities are available for use by universities, industry, and other government departments on a case-by-case basis, consistent with our existing R&D; requirements and federal government policies. The facilities are available to requesters on a cost-recovery basis.

Inhalation Exposure Facility for Highly Toxic Materials

DRDC Suffield has a new facility for measuring the toxicity of inhaled aerosol particles. The unique design of the facility allows a high level of control over exposure conditions, an extremely safe means of aerosolizing toxic materials and a very accurate means of determining exposure levels.

Quest

DRDC Atlantic's research ship, the 2200 ton CFAV Quest was specially designed for open ocean acoustic research. Extreme measures were taken to reduce the transfer of sound from its machinery to the sea, preserving the low-noise environment essential for making sensitive acoustic measurements.
