R&D; Program

Defence R&D; Canada focuses on research and development in technology areas of critical importance to future Canadian Forces operations. Its key objective is to ensure that the Canadian Forces remain technologically prepared and operationally relevant in a defence environment that will see increased focus on interoperability with allies, technology driven warfare and new asymmetric threats.

R&D; Activity Areas

Defence R&D; Canada research concentrates on 21 R&D; activity areas that span the defence technology spectrum:

Research Programs

The activity areas outlined above comprise Defence R&D; Canada's R&D; Program, which is carried out by two interconnected research mechanisms:

Applied Research Program

The Applied Research Program (ARP) is a Defence R&D; Canada (DRDC) program designed to advance the defence science knowledge base, investigate novel and emerging technologies and explore the military application of those technologies.

Technology Demonstration Program (TDP)

Demonstrates and validates technology solutions for new and emerging Canadian Forces operational systems and concepts without having to fully develop new products.
