Statement by the Prime Minister on the celebration of Eid ul-Fitr

20 October 2006
Ottawa, Ontario

I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to members of the Muslim community as you celebrate Eid ul-Fitr.

Today, as you observe and celebrate the end of Ramadan and the breaking of the fast, I would like to acknowledge the tremendous contribution of the Muslim community to our great country. Through a combination of work ethic, commitment to educational achievement and belief in the importance of family and community, each of you has helped to build a better, stronger Canada for us all.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, please accept my best wishes for a happy, healthy and memorable celebration with friends and family. Happy Eid!
