The Honourable Carol Skelton

Minister of National Revenue and Minister of Western Economic Diversification

Saskatoon–Rosetown–Biggar (Saskatchewan)


Carol Skelton was first elected to the House of Commons in 2000 and re-elected in 2004 and 2006.

Most recently, Ms. Skelton served as Critic for Social Development and for Public Health. Her previous parliamentary experience includes periods as Critic for Western Economic Diversification, for the Deputy Prime Minister and for Human Resources and Skills Development (Social Economy). Ms. Skelton also served as Deputy Health Critic and was responsible for reviewing the natural health products policy.

She has been Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources and a member of numerous standing committees, and served as Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition. 

Prior to her election, Ms. Skelton was a coordinator for the Canadian Blood Services. She has served in organizations ranging from 4-H to the Royal Canadian Legion. In her work with the Canadian Red Cross, she worked as a family services officer in Winnipeg during the Manitoba flood, and in Nebraska and Iowa during the flood of the Mississippi.

Ms. Skelton was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, in 1945. She is married to Noel and has shared in the management of their farm for 38 years. They have three children.
