Canada is blessed with magnificent geography from coast to coast to coast, but none more spectacular than Nahanni Park.

We are a country of the Americas. Re-engagement in our hemisphere is a critical international priority for our Government.

Canada is committed to playing a bigger role in the Caribbean and the Americas.

With leading-edge technology and abundant supplies of grains, oilseeds, and other feedstocks, Canada is uniquely positioned to become a global leader in the production of biofuels.

Our meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership that exists between Canada and Jordan, and served as a clear reminder of the King’s steadfast leadership, both in his own country and in the Middle East more broadly.

Canada has a choice when it comes to defending our sovereignty over the Arctic. We either use it or lose it. And make no mistake, this Government intends to use it.

On July 1, 1867, three small colonies joined together as the Dominion of Canada. Today 140 years later, we are a federation of 10 provinces and three territories, stretching to the coasts of three oceans.

Together, these improvements to New Brunswick’s transportation infrastructure will smooth traffic flow, increase the efficient movement of goods and people, and stimulate jobs and opportunities in the road construction sector.

Thanks to the players we’re honouring here tonight, Canada has three more world championships to add to its collection. Congratulations to all of you, you’ve done our country proud.

Our country is more prosperous, stronger and more united than it’s been in 30 years. Our job, and the job of all of us in parliament, is to keep building on this success.

Flight 182 may have flown under the flag of India, but the murder of its passengers was a singularly Canadian crime and tragedy.

At the conclusion today of his meetings with G8 and other leaders, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that Canada had met its objectives for the Summit.

Instead of letting disputes over land and compensation drag on forever, fuelling frustration and uncertainty, they will be solved once and for all by impartial judges on a new Specific Claims Tribunal.

Canada may be a small contributor to global warming – our greenhouse gas emissions represent just 2% of the earth’s total – but we owe it to future generations to do whatever we can to address this world problem.
