The Excise Tax Act imposed the Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales
Tax (GST/HST) on most goods and services consumed in Canada at the
rate of 7%, and in the participating provinces of Nova Scotia, New
Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador at the rate of 15%. These
rates of tax are reduced to 6% and 14%, effective July 1, 2006.
We’ve delivered on our commitment—one of our five core
priorities—to cut the GST by one percentage point.
Reducing the GST is a tax cut like no other:

earn enough to pay personal income tax get real savings day in
