Inhalation Exposure Facility for Highly Toxic Materials

photoDRDC Suffield has a new facility for measuring the toxicity of inhaled aerosol particles. The unique design of the facility allows a high level of control over exposure conditions, an extremely safe means of aerosolizing toxic materials and a very accurate means of determining exposure levels. Combined with expertise in aerosol characterization and liposome encapsulation, DRDC Suffield now has an unsurpassed capability for studying the inhalation toxicity of aerosolized agents and the efficacy of inhaled medical treatments.

Flash X-Ray

photoUsed to record and study explosively-driven events where smoke, flame, debris or high pressures preclude the use of high speed cameras. DRDC Suffield uses the facility for research in the formation and flight characteristics of explosively-formed projectiles. Other uses might include ballistics, shaped charges, behind-armour effects and general explosive studies.

Non-Metallic Laboratory

photoA non-conductive, non-magnetic building for very low noise magnetic and low frequency electromagnetic measurements. The laboratory is used for the study of detection of ferrous and metallic objects. It is situated far enough from other facilities that they are not a source of electromagnetic interference.

Terrain Motion Simulator (TMS)

photoThe Terrain Motion Simulator (TMS) was specifically configured for DRDC Suffield to test the response and durability of vehicle components and equipment exposed to prolonged shaking/motions similar to that which would be encountered during actual use in off-road situations.

Hydraulic Test Bench

photoThe Hydraulic Test Bench (HTB) is a general purpose tool to analyze the performance of hydraulic systems and components. The HTB provides hydraulic flow, pressure, direction and instrumentation to simulate a nearly unlimited number of hydraulic circuit configurations. It may also be used to operate other equipment.
