Defence Research Establishment Valcartier’s project, known as "Commercial Software Certification for Government Applications or MaliCOTS", received a gold medal, in the Partnership category, at the TechnoFed 2000 Gala which took place on October 24.

Val-Bélair, Quebec– The Honourable Lucienne Robillard, President of the Treasury Board, on behalf of the Honourable Art Eggleton, Minister of National Defence, announced today the transfer of imaging technology from Defence Research Establishment Valcartier (DREV) to DIAGNOS Inc. of Sainte-Foy. This imaging technology, known as Auto Context Image Database Exploitation System (ACIDES), will pave the way for the development of a computer-aided cancer detection system that is expected to increase the speed of diagnosis.

Defence Research Establishment Valcartier accepted the invitation of the National Defense Industrial Association, through Combat Systems Sector, and will participate in the 18th International Symposium & Exhibition on Ballistics on November 15-19, 1999 in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

For the first time since its founding in 1945, Defence Research Establishment Valcartier (DREV) has been awarded a major research contract with the automobile industry that is expected to produce the third generation of gas generators for airbags. In awarding the contract, EXPRO Chemical Products recognizes the expertise of the Department of National Defence's most important R&D; centre.

A technology developed by DREV's Information Systems Technology Section won the Gold medal in the category "Improving systems and services which serve the internal operations of government". The award was presented at the COMDEX computer show in Montreal (5 October 1999) within the framework of the ‘Technology in Government Week’TechnoFed’99, Province of Quebec. This prize recognizes the outstanding initiatives carried out within federal public bodies thanks to the judicious use of information technology.
