Biography of Carole Lacombe


Carole Lacombe

Acting President and Senior Vice-President


Carole Lacombe joined the Public Service of Canada in 1987 and has served mostly in economic and science-based departments. She has been Senior Vice President of the Canadian Space Agency since August 9, 2004 and was appointed Acting President of the Canadian Space Agency on February 26, 2006.

Prior to joining the Canadian Space Agency, Ms. Lacombe was Assistant Deputy Minister for Policy, Planning and Information at Canada Economic Development. From 2001 to 2004, she contributed to several sectors at Canadian Heritage as an Assistant Deputy Minister: Planning and Corporate Affairs, Public Affairs and Communications, and Canadian Identity. 

From 2000 to 2001, she was Director General, Policy and Coordination with the Infrastructure National Office and prior to that, from 1998 to 2000, Director General, Government Readiness, Year 2000 Project Office, at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.

From 1997 to 1998, she was Director General, Program Planning and Coordination, Canadian Coast Guard, Fisheries and Oceans Canada. From 1996 to 1997, Executive Coordinator, Canadian Blood Secretariat, Health Protection Branch, Health Canada. From 1993 to 1996, Ms. Lacombe was with the Health Protection Branch, Health Canada, as Director, Product Safety Bureau and subsequently established the Office of Tobacco Control.

From 1987 to 1993 she held director-level positions in Consumer and Corporate Affairs Canada at the regional and national levels.

Before joining the Public Service, Ms. Lacombe worked in an industrial research environment in the health-care industry, at Institut Armand-Frappier. She holds a bachelor's degree in science (Biology) from the Université de Montréal and a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from Hautes Études Commerciales.
