Telesat launches Anik F2, the world's largest commercial telecommunications satellite

On July 17, 2004, Telesat Canada launched its Anik F2 multimedia telecommunications satellite. It carries a payload that uses the new Ka-band frequency, developed through a partnership of the Canadian Space Agency, the Communications Research Centre (CRC), Telesat, EMS Technologies, and COM DEV.

On-orbit servicing refers to the utilization of robotic systems to maintain or assemble assets in space. It was first developed for the Space Shuttle and then for the ISS. It has recently received renewed attention with very interesting planned demonstration missions by various space agencies including CSA.
