Board Chairs release Consolidated Information Requirements for NWT pipeline project

YELLOWKNIFE, NT - The chairs of the boards and agencies responsible for assessing and regulating oil and gas developments in the NWT today released the consolidated information requirements (CIR) for the Environmental Impact Assessment and Regulatory Review of a Northern Gas Pipeline Project through the Northwest Territories.

The CIR will guide potential proponents in the collection and analysis of baseline environmental and socio-economic data and technical information for the preparation of environmental assessment reports and regulatory applications. The CIR describes the information that the various boards and agencies will need to meet their legislative and regulatory requirements.

In addition to direction on collection of information, it provides links to specific guidance on the various regulatory applications that may be required (e.g., National Energy Board applications, land use permits, water licences). The terms of reference for an environmental impact assessment will be issued at a later date when potential proponents have further defined a project and have filed applications.

The CIR is a component of the Cooperation Plan for the Environmental Impact Assessment and Regulatory Review of a Northern Gas Pipeline Project through the Northwest Territories released in June 2002.
