lowest pay increment (plus faible
augmentation (de l'échelle de rémunération))
rehabilitation leave (congé de
réadaptation)
When a member of the Canadian Forces on rehabilitation leave is appointed to a position and is subsequently
reappointed or assigned on an acting basis during the period of rehabilitation leave, the salary rate on reappointment
will be calculated considering both the salary received in the Forces and the salary established on the initial
appointment. Whichever salary is the greater will be applied.
Example 1
As a Regular Force member since January 24, 1972, an employee earned $72,296 (maximum) per annum.
The employee was granted rehabilitation leave for the period October 7, 2002, to June 30, 2003.
During the period of rehabilitation leave, the employee was appointed to a represented AS-06 position, which was
effective on October 24, 2002.

Since the difference between the maximums is $1,379, which is less than the lowest pay increment of the new group
and level, the appointment constitutes a transfer and the employee is entitled to the rate of pay of $73,675. This is
the maximum of the AS-06 pay rates scale.
On March 17, 2003, the employee was then appointed to a represented AS-07 position.
AS-07: Subject to a collective agreement signed on November 19, 2001.

As the employee is still on rehabilitation leave, the salary in the Forces of $72,296 per annum has to be considered
when establishing the represented AS-07 rate of pay.
The AS-07 appointment constitutes a promotion.
Calculation
- Forces salary as of October 6, 2002
|
$72,296 (maximum)
|
- AS-06 salary effective on October 24, 2002
|
$73,765 (maximum)
|
- Difference between the maximums (AS-07 and Forces)
|
$9,900 ($82,196 - $72,296)
|
- Since the difference of $9,900 is greater than the lowest pay increment of the AS-07 ($2,324), the appointment is a
promotion.
|
$74,620
($72,296 + $2,324)
|
The employee's salary on appointment, which was effective on March 17, 2003, will be $74,621. This is the
2nd step within the AS-07 pay rate scale.
Note: Since the AS-07 salary of $74,621 is greater than the AS-06 salary of $73,765 there is no
need to consider this salary when determining the rate of pay in the AS-07 scale of rates. However, if the AS-06 salary
had been greater than $74,621, the employee would have been entitled to a rate in the AS-07 scale at least equal to
this amount.
