30th Anniversary Reunion (Pacific Region)

The Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) / Responsible Recreational Boating (RRB) is celebrating their 30th anniversary reunion on May 10, 2003 in Victoria. The reunion will include former and present students, crewpersons, coordinators and support staff of the IRB/RRB Program.

The IRB Program was implemented to augment Coast Guard personnel and resources during the busy summer season when there was an increase in search and rescue activity. This provided students with summer employment and an opportunity of a marine career and later, provided opportunities to Coast Guard personnel.

The program has been invaluable to search and rescue over the past 30 years. Many people have left Coast Guard employment to pursue different careers or paths. If you know anyone formerly involved with the IRB/RRB Program, please pass the word along.

For information contact Carol Fitzsimmons at fitzsimmonsc@pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca or telephone (250) 363-5360.
