The provincial Department of Municipalities, Culture and Housing is responsible for providing ground search and rescue services throughout the province through the Emergency Measures Organization. New Brunswick's Support Plan for Sea, Air, and Ground Search and Rescue Operations and Training provides the parameters for marine, air, and ground SAR, and details procedures for applying provincial government resources in support of the plan. It also describes the roles and responsibilities of agencies involved in delivering SAR services across the province. New Brunswick is divided into 12 zones, each with an official volunteer ground SAR team, trained and organized by the New Brunswick Ground Search and Rescue Association. Police forces, including the RCMP under contract with the provincial Department of the Solicitor General, coordinate and assign resources as required. The EMO coordinates the use of provincial government resources. NBGSARA has a working relationship with the Department of Natural Resources and Energy, and has Memoranda of Understanding with both the RCMP and the EMO to provide additional support when required.
