Prime Minister Harper calls newly elected Haiti President to offer congratulations

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement:

“I had the pleasure of calling President-designate René Préval today to congratulate him on his recent election victory. On behalf of all Canadians, I offered our support for democracy, reconstruction and reconciliation in Haiti. President-designate René Préval and I also discussed development challenges facing Haiti and I assured him that Canada is there for the long run.”
