Ottawa - The Honourable John Baird, President of the Treasury Board, announced today the Government of Canada has reached a tentative agreement with
the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, the bargaining agent for the Computer Systems Administration (CS) Group, towards the renewal of the CS Group's
collective agreement.
"This tentative agreement demonstrates that the negotiation process does work," said President Baird. "The terms of the agreement reflect our commitment to work with
the unions and the Public Service of Canada, while meeting our fiscal responsibility towards Canadian taxpayers."
The CS group is made up of over 12,000 employees mainly responsible for programming, communications systems, software development, systems analysis, client support, and
Information Technology support. The CS Group's contract expired on December 21, 2004.
The agreement provides for a number of measures that are to be included in a new collective agreement that will be in effect until December 21, 2007. The bargaining
agent has indicated that it intends to recommend to its members the approval of the tentative agreement.
