Amendments to the Isolated Posts Directive - Appendices A, B, C and G - Information Notices

DATE: October 26 , 2001

TO: Holders of Isolated Posts Directive

SUBJECT: Amendments to the Isolated Posts Directive - APPENDICES A, B, C AND G

Please distribute this notice and the amended appendices of the Isolated Posts Directive as quickly as possible to persons at your headquarters and/or regional offices who are involved in the administration of the isolated post allowances.

The Treasury Board Secretariat has approved certain changes to the Isolated Posts Directive. These changes were arrived at following consultations within the National Joint Council and are in accordance with the approved methodologies. The October 26, 2001 amendment to the Isolated Posts Directive reflects these changes.

a) The Environment Allowance rates, Appendix B, have been increased, effective August 1, 2001.

b) The Living Cost Differential rates, Appendix C, have been increased effective August 1, 2001.

No pay action should be taken to implement the revisions to Appendices B and C, mentioned in paragraphs a) and b) above, until instructions are received from the applicable pay office of Public Works and Government Services Canada.

c) As a result of a survey conducted by Statistics Canada, the Fuel and Utilities Differential levels of a number of locations have been revised effective October 1, 2000.

d) Please note that Ogoki, Ontario has been added to Appendix A.

e) Please note that Takla Landing, British Columbia has been reinstated at Environment Allowance Level 3, and that Fort Nelson, British Columbia, has been reinstated at Environment Allowance Level 4. Both are effective October 1, 1998.

f) Please note that Labrador City, Newfoundland and, North West River, Newfoundland, are now accessible by all-weather road. As a result, the Environment Allowance for Labrador City has been reduced to Level 4 and for North West River to Level 3.

Any retroactive payments resulting from the above changes are to be administered in the same manner as retroactive increases to employees' pay. For purposes of retroactive payment, the "day approval is given" shall be the date of this amendment list.

Employees at locations where the allowances are being reduced or revoked must first be advised in writing.

Changes are identified in bold print.
