Temporary Foreign Worker Units
…helping employers address labour and
skills shortages
The Temporary Foreign Worker Units in Calgary and Vancouver, announced by Citizenship and Immigration Minister Monte Solberg on July 31, 2006, are now up and running. As of September 1, 2006, employers residing in, or employers with potential employees destined to these regions can get direct support from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
Established on a pilot project basis, the units are designed to:
- guide employers or their representatives seeking to employ foreign workers through the immigration process;
- facilitate the entry of temporary foreign workers who are exempted from the HRSDC-Service Canada’s labour market opinion process; and
- pre-screen supporting documents from employers to streamline the application process and provide an opinion for officers at the port of entry.
