Vital Statistics

The Vital Statistics Division of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations is responsible for registration of vital events of birth, death, marriage and stillbirth which occur in the province of Nova Scotia. Official Certificates are issued from information contained on these registrations.

New restrictions on who can apply for one went into effect on February 15, 2002. Vital Statistics will issue a birth certificate only to the person named on the certificate, a parent or legal guardian or the administrator of the person's estate. An information sheet is available on-line; for more details, please contact Vital Statistics.

We now offer the following transactions through our Online Express Services

  1. Birth Certificate Request
  2. Marriage Certificate Request
  3. Request Death Certificate
  4. Payment on Account

Feel free to contact Vital Statistics with your questions or concerns, and don't forget to fill out our feedback survey as we value your comments.
