Arts Presentation Canada - Canadian Heritage

The Arts Presentation Canada (APC) program supports Canadian non-profit organizations which presents, in a professional manner, an art festival or performing arts presenters. It also supports presenters' networking initiatives.

Canada Council for the Arts

The Canada Council for the Arts is a national agency which provides grants and services to professional Canadian artists and arts organizations in dance, media arts, music, theatre, writing and publishing, interdisciplinary work, performance art, and visual arts.

Cape Breton Growth Fund - Cape Breton Growth Fund Corporation

The objective of the Cape Breton Growth Fund (CBGF) is to promote sustainable long term economic development for Cape Breton Island. Funding will only be available in priority areas which include; oil and gas, tourism development, environmental remediation, arts and culture development, infrastructure, and knowledge-based sectors.

Cultural Activities Program - Nova Scotia Department of Tourism Culture & Heritage

Provides financial assistance for projects that develop or enhance the production and appreciation of cultural experiences and products.

Cultural Programs for Organizations and Individuals - Nova Scotia Department of Tourism Culture & Heritage

Provides financial assistance to support art, professional artists, and cultural organizations in Nova Scotia. There are three programs which provide funding or awards including:

  • Grants to Organizations and Small Groups
  • The Portia White Prize

Operating Assistance to Cultural Organizations - Nova Scotia Department of Tourism & Culture

Under the Facilities Program, support is offered to organizations that run cultural facilities for the benefit of the community in which they are located, as well as to benefit performing artists in Nova Scotia.

Halifax Regional Municipality Community Grants Program - Halifax Regional Municipality

The Community Grants Program provides annual cash grants to non-profit community groups. These awards support community volunteers and non-profit groups in the arts, social, cultural, recreational, heritage and environment programs. The application deadline is January 31st each year.

Industry Growth Program - Nova Scotia Department of Tourism Culture & Heritage

The Industries Program is designed to help cultural industries grow and will develop a partnership with the sector to examine and support mechanisms and strategies already in place to determine a plan for the future.

International Cultural Relations Program - Foreign Affairs Canada

As part of its International Cultural Relations Program, Foreign Affairs Canada provides grants to Canadian groups and individuals for the promotion of Canadian culture abroad. Grants may be awarded to individuals, institutions or organizations that create, interpret, promote or market Canadian cultural products for the international market.

Museums Assistance Program - Canadian Heritage

The Museums Assistance Program provides financial assistance to Canadian museums and related organizations, for activities that foster access by present and future generations of Canadians to their human, natural, artistic and scientific heritage while enhancing awareness, understanding and enjoyment of this heritage.

Trade Routes - Canadian Heritage

Trade Routes is Canadian Heritage's strategy to expand international markets for Canada's arts and cultural sector and will facilitate their access to international business opportunities. Additionally, organizations that have international business development projects in arts and culture can submit applications to be considered for funding.

Youth Program - Nova Scotia Department of Tourism Culture and Heritage

Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design

The Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design promotes excellence in the field of craft and design, both professional and recreational. The Centre coordinates professional development and business and marketing training programs for craft professionals.

International Cultural Industries - Trade Promotion Section - Foreign Affairs Canada

The Trade Promotion Section of the Arts and Cultural Industries Division (ACA) has a group of trade promotion specialists dedicated to promoting the trade interests of cultural industries and marketing Canadian capabilities abroad. The Trade Promotion Section also collaborates with a network of partners to help arts and cultural companies realize their export development objectives.

The Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design

The Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design promotes craft and design-related industries in Nova Scotia. The Centre provides services, assistance, and facilities on matters relating to craft and design throughout Nova Scotia to artists, community and media groups, institutes, and producers.

3. REGULATIONS

Importing and Exporting Cultural Property - Canadian Heritage

The Cultural Property Export Regulations state that anyone exporting cultural property may require an export permit. The Canadian Cultural Property Export Control List describes the categories of cultural property that require export permits in order to leave Canada.

Nova Scotia Food Establishment Permit - Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture & Fisheries

This permit is required by anyone who wants to operate a food service facility on a permanent or occasional basis. This includes, but is not limited to, restaurants, canteens, and special events.

Nova Scotia Tartan Production Licence - Nova Scotia Department of Tourism Culture and Heritage

This permit is required by anyone who wants to produce or reproduce the Nova Scotia Tartan in any form.

Tariff Classification of Imported Goods - Canada Border Services Agency

Importers must provide a complete and accurate description of their goods so that the correct tariff classification can be assigned to them.

The Canada/Nova Scotia Business Service Centre (C/NSBSC) Reference Library is a great resource for potential entrepreneurs as well as owners and staff of existing Arts & Culture businesses.
