Pursuant to Order made Tuesday, May 16, 2006, Mr. Harper (Prime Minister), seconded by Mr. O'Connor (Minister of National Defence), moved, — That,

Conformément à l'ordre adopté le mardi 16 mai 2006, M. Harper (premier ministre), appuyé par M. O'Connor (ministre de la Défense nationale), propose, — Que,

|
(1) whereas the House on April 10, 2006 debated a motion in support of Canada’s significant commitment in Afghanistan;
|
1) attendu que la Chambre a débattu le 10 avril 2006 une motion visant à appuyer l’engagement significatif du Canada en Afghanistan;
|
|
(2) whereas Canada’s commitment in Afghanistan is an important contribution, with that of more than 30 other countries, to international efforts under the auspices of the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO);
|
2) attendu que l’engagement du Canada en Afghanistan est une importante contribution, avec celle de plus de 30 autres pays, aux efforts internationaux sous l’égide de l'Organisation des Nations Unies et de l’Organisation du Traité de l'Atlantique Nord (OTAN);
|
|
(3) whereas these international efforts are reducing poverty, enhancing human rights and gender equality, strengthening civil society and helping to build a free, secure and self-sustaining democratic state for all Afghan men, women and children; and
|
3) attendu que ces efforts internationaux diminuent la pauvreté, consolident les droits de la personne et l’égalité des sexes, renforcent la société civile et permettent de bâtir un État démocratique libre, sécuritaire et autonome pour les hommes, les femmes et les enfants afghans;
|
|
(4) whereas Canada’s commitment in Afghanistan is consistent with Canada’s support of freedom, democracy, the rule of law and human rights around the world;
|
4) attendu que l’engagement du Canada en Afghanistan cadre avec les principes du Canada – la liberté, la démocratie, la primauté du droit et les droits de la personne partout dans le monde;
|
|
the House support the government’s two year extension of Canada’s deployment of diplomatic, development, civilian police and military personnel in Afghanistan and the provision of funding and equipment for this extension. (Government Business No. 7)

la Chambre appuie la prolongation du déploiement, pour une période de deux ans, par le gouvernement du Canada en Afghanistan d’un personnel diplomatique, d'aide au développement, policier et militaire ainsi que l’affectation de fonds et de matériel à ce déploiement.
