F ITT - Canada's centre for international trade training and certification - is a national, not-for-profit*, professional organization, founded in 1992 by industry and government to develop international trade training programs and services, establish country-wide standards and certification, and generally ensure continuing professional development in the practice of international trade. FITT programs are delivered across Canada through community colleges, universities, private organizations and online.

*Note: "not-for-profit" also known as non-profit, nonprofit, non profit, voluntary and volunteer organizations.

Eligibility Criteria

  • international trade practitioners who want to earn a professional designation;
  • the management core and staff of Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) making the transition from the domestic to the global marketplace;
  • business professionals or managers who want to improve their expertise and upgrade their skills in international trade;
  • individuals interested in pursuing a career in international trade;
  • export and import service providers.

Summary

FITT is a private sector driven organization. Our founding partners include the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Federation of Labour, the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters, the Canadian Professional Logistics Institute, the Canadian Professional Sales Association and World Trade Centres of Canada. Our government founding partners include Human Resources Development Canada, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and Industry Canada. As well, FITT is backed by provincial governments through the many educational institutions across the country that are partners in the delivery of its programs.

The Certified International Trade Professional (C.I.T.P.)
FITT is the only organization in Canada to award the C.I.T.P. designation - the Canadian credential of excellence in international trade.

As a C.I.T.P. you have met rigorous requirements in education, training and experience. You have made a commitment to adhere to the Standards of Ethical Conduct, and today, across Canada C.I.T.P.s are bringing a new level of accountability and increased recognition to the profession of international business and trade.

FITTskills - consists of eight courses that can be taken as a comprehensive package or individually, that focus on the practical aspects of international business, including logistics, trade finance, nation-by-nation marketing opportunities, market entry strategies and sound international management techniques. It is an essential toolkit, based on everyday, real-life examples of what works and what doesn't in international trade.

FITTskills has been validated by Canadian industry and accredited by the International Association of Trade Training Organizations (IATTO).  

Designed for small and medium-sized service firms, FITTservices assists these firms in developing a viable export plan for a specific market or market opportunity, and thus increase their chances of export success.  The workshops are practical and concrete, linking theory to experience, with seasoned exporters and trade professionals as trainers. The training covers all aspects of exporting for service firms and results in a bankable export business plan for a specific market or opportunity.

Going Global - A joint initiative of FITT and Team Canada Inc, Going Global is a series of introductory workshops designed to help you make that crucial exporting decision and get you off to a good start on your journey towards foreign markets. These workshops are offered online and can be brought to the classroom.

EnterpriseFITT - EnterpriseFITT is international trade training, individually tailored to meet the unique requirements of a business or organization. Learning objectives are defined with the client, based upon a careful needs analysis. Training can be delivered on or off-site through practical exercises and scenarios, dynamic presentations, workshops, or any mixture of approaches that best suit the learning style of the organization. Experts work in close consultation with the client to optimize the delivery of knowledge and skills targeted to the client's needs.
