Customs Client Services Offices provide service to the commercial importing and exporting community, to individuals and to the traveling public. They have been set up to enhance the global competitiveness of Canadian business on the international market, to assist business clients in complying with trade law requirements and provide them with information to allow them to access all the benefits available through Canada's international trade agreements. Client Services personnel will also help answer questions from individuals and the traveling public that deal with bringing goods into Canada, customs requirements and obligations, forms and publications to facilitate their transactions at customs.

Customs Client Services provide Canadians with a wide range of products and services tailored to their needs including:

  • service on a walk-in basis, by telephone, fax or e-mail;
  • access to forms, pamphlets and publications;
  • pathfinding to other government departments;
  • information on prohibited goods and firearms;
  • delivery of seminars and educational programs;
  • promoting public awareness and understanding of customs programs and policies;
  • advance rulings on admissibility, classification, valuation, country of origin, tariff treatment or possible benefits such as temporary admission privileges, remissions or duty deferral, applicable to goods before their arrival.

The Customs Client Services provide a wide variety of trade and customs related information that businesses and the traveling public may find useful. For example:

  • import/export regulations;
  • customs and other government agency or departmental documentation;
  • international trade agreements;
  • duties relief programs;
  • rates of duty;
  • tariff classification;
  • valuation legislation;
  • temporary importations and remissions;
  • anti-dumping and countervailing duties;
  • country of origin marking requirements;
  • refund and appeals procedures; and
  • advance rulings.
