Forestry

IPM can have tremendous benefits to forestry management and allow sustainable use of its resources. One example is the Spruce Budworm which is a major defoliator of spruce and fir forests across Canada and parts of northern United States. Its impact varies in different regions, which in turn means that management decisions and actions can be highly variable.

The Forest Pest Management Caucus, in collaboration with the PMRA, developed an IPM document on Spruce Budworm as part of an Integrated Pest Management Partnership Project. The document describes the principles, available methods, limitations and future needs of spruce budworm control.
