The PMRA specifies buffer zones to mitigate environmental effects to aquatic and terrestrial habitats which may result from spray drift during pesticide application.

The PMRA established a Buffer Zone Working Group to:

• ensure a consistent approach to the implementation of buffer zones;
• develop and update PMRA methods for calculating buffer zones;
• ensure consistent and clear labelling statements;
• formulate new policies for addressing flexibility for applicators when buffer zones are required; and
• liaise with national and international buffer zone stakeholders.
