The Classification Implementation Working Group (CIWG) is a working group of the Federal/Provincial/Territorial (FPT) Committee on Pest Management and Pesticides.
Provinces, territories and the federal Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) continue to work on the development of a framework to replace existing federal and provincial pesticide classification systems with a single, harmonized strategy for Canada.
The CIWG developed and consulted nationally on the document entitled A Proposal for a Harmonized Pesticide Classification System for Canada. Organizations and individuals were invited to submit comments during the consultation period, which ended on February 4, 2003.
Submissions have been carefully considered by the CIWG and will continue to be referenced as this initiative moves forward. The final development of Phase I will deal with the re-classification of domestic pesticides; Phase II will focus re-classification efforts on commercial and restricted pesticides.
