Canadian Trade Commissioners

Trade Commissioners guide export-ready companies through the global marketplace.

An export-ready company is not defined by size or by export experience. Rather, it is a company whose principals can demonstrate their commitment to succeed on a global level by the amount of research they have undertaken, their international marketing plan, and their willingness to commit financial and human resources to the undertaking.

Trade Commissioners operate out of Canada's Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates in 140 areas around the world. There is little difference between an Embassy and a High Commission. For historical reasons, however, the term High Commission is used to refer to our Embassies in Commonwealth countries. Consulates refer to any official office within a country that is neither an Embassy nor a High Commission. For example, the Canadian Embassy in the United States is located in Washington, D.C. while Canadian consulates are situated in major U.S. cities.

Trade Commissioners also work within Canada at International Trade Centres which are located in most major cities across the country.

The Canadian Trade Commissioner Directory allows you to look up:

  • Canada's Trade Commissioners and their location
  • Canada's Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates around the world
  • Market research reports by country and sector
  • International Trade Centres and their locations within Canada
  • the services they offer to Canadian exporters
