ECONOMIC CERTAINTY FOR MANITOBA
Investing in Manitoba is part of Conservative plan to protect our economy
Winnipeg– Today Vic Toews, candidate for Provencher, spoke about the next steps a Conservative Government will take to help ensure the long-term success of Manitoba’s economy.
“As Conservatives, we recognize that each region in Canada is unique in its potential and aspirations,” he said. “Which is why for the past two and a half years, we have made investments through our Regional Economic Diversification Agencies to boost the economic fortunes of communities.”
Minister Toews spoke in Winnipeg following a national announcement made by the Prime Minister, who announced that a re-elected Conservative Government will invest $300 million over the next four years to help the regions of Canada.
“In 2004 and 2005, the previous government cut funding in most of the regional development agencies. Western Economic Diversification lost $15 million per year,” said Minister Toews. “A re-elected Conservative Government will reverse these cuts.”
He said regional development agencies play an important role in assisting regions of Canada facing specific economic challenges. These agencies support local economic diversification, retraining programs and infrastructure projects.
“For Manitoba, this announcement means greater assistance in economic growth and diversification,” Minister Toews added. “Unlike the opposition, we have a plan – a real plan that is working, to protect our economy in a time of global uncertainty.”
