International Trade Canada (Regional Offices)

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT)

Last Verified: 2006-04-05

In partnership with the Regional Trade Network, the regional offices (ROs) of International Trade Canada (ITCan) can help direct you to the existing products and services that relate to your particular exporting needs. Their mandate is to work within the Team Canada Inc (TCI) partnership to substantially increase the number of Canadian exporters, to expand and diversify exports and to support the investment initiatives of Canadian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). An unprecedented effort to streamline export services to the Canadian business community, TCI is a network of government and private sector export service providers that helps Canadian business succeed in world markets. Clients achieve maximum benefit by receiving the right kinds of services, quickly and efficiently.

Eligibility Criteria

The ROs provide services to Canadian SMEs that have demonstrated a strong commitment to opening a new export market or further developing an existing one.

Summary

What services are offered?

Located in every province, ROs provide a full range of trade development services and assistance to Canadian SMEs, including:

  • One-On-One Export Help

If you are already exporting or you have a product or service with export potential and you are ready to become an exporter, the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) of ITCan can help you implement an export strategy. We can also recommend other specialized export services that are available here in Canada or through our offices abroad.

  • Market and Industry Information

To compete in the global marketplace, your company needs up-to-date foreign market information and intelligence to guide your export strategy and plans. TCS offices are constantly gathering and analyzing such data for the benefit of Canadian exporters and help you connect with trade commissioners and potential partners in target markets.

  • Advice on Export Financing

Our offices can advise you of available funding programs in your province or territory that can help you share the costs and risks of entering and expanding in foreign markets.

  • Trade Fairs, Missions and Events

If you want to check out your target market on the ground, we recommend international trade fairs and trade missions that will match your company's needs. We also work with partners to organize seminars and events in Canada that will help you learn about business environments and opportunities abroad.
