Summary
LAMS procures approximately $4 billion in goods and services annually. The Department of National Defence is the primary client of LAMS, representing approximately 80% of the business volume.
LAMS contracting activities are mainly for engineering systems, and are highly technical and non-commercial, involving unique, often complex requirements. Following the award of contracts, considerable effort is placed on administering and enforcing contracts, and ensuring that the performance and quality levels of end products meet client requirements.
LAMS is also responsible for the management of Major Crown Projects (MCP) within the Acquisitions Branch of PWGSC. Major Crown Projects are complex, high-risk projects valued in excess of $100 million. MCP's supplier base covers nearly every industrial sector with Canada and involves large companies as prime contractors, and small businesses and/or consultants as subcontractors.
LAMS Suppliers
Most business opportunities with LAMS are advertised on the electronic tendering service MERXTM (see the document MERX - Electronic Tendering Service ) and the department's business publication Government Business Opportunities - GBO which list only requirements subject to international trade agreements.
