Young Entrepreneur Awards

Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC)

Every year, the BDC presents the Young Entrepreneur Awards (YEA). Thirteen young Canadian entrepreneurs aged between 19 and 35 years old - one from each province and territory - will receive these awards to recognize their accomplishments. One of them will also receive the Export Achievement Award from Export Development Canada.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be between 19 and 35 years old on December of the current year;
  • have at least two years experience as an entrepreneur.

Eligible Area

All Canadian provinces and territories can participate.

Eligible Activities

Nomination for an award for young entrepreneur.

Summary

The 2006 Young Entrepreneur Awards ceremony will take place on October 17, in Moncton, New Brunswick.

How to apply?

  • Young entrepreneurs can nominate themselves.
  • Application forms can be picked up at the BDC branch nearest you, or by calling toll-free 1-877-BDC-BANX (1-877-232-2269). Please visit the Provinces and Territories page of the BDC's Web site for a list of branches.

How the winners are selected?

The winners are selected by a panel of:

  • business people;
  • entrepreneurs;
  • members of Chambers of Commerce; and
  • BDC representatives.

The following selection criteria apply to all nominees:

  • the company's success and growth potential;
  • innovation;
  • participation in new economy activities; and
  • community involvement.

The panel also considers:

  • the company's export performance;
  • the entrepreneur's age when the business was started; and
  • any special challenges that had to be overcome.
