Requirements for Imports and Exports of Prohibited and Controlled Goods - Other Federal Government Departments

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)

Last Verified: 2006-03-02

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) assists other federal government departments/agencies by administering and enforcing legislation and regulations of those departments/agencies. In certain cases, this ensures that prohibited and controlled goods are not illegally imported into, or exported out of, the country.

Eligibility Criteria

Not applicable.

Summary

Some government departments/agencies prohibit certain goods from entering or leaving Canada. Certain other goods are controlled, meaning that permits, certificates, labelling or authorizations from a federal department/agency are needed before the goods can be released by the CBSA, which holds them until the importer or exporter meets all the requirements. For more information, visit CBSA's Web site to download and consult a partial list of the D19 series of Customs Memoranda.

Federal Departments/Agencies Which Control Goods

Questions concerning the administration by Customs of the requirements and procedures outlined in the D19 series should be directed to the regional customs office.
