First Nation Forestry Program Newsletter : January 2001
Abstract |
The First Nation Forestry Program (FNFP) has been successful over the past five years on a number of levels, due particularly to the positive and productive relationships built between government and First Nations from coast to coast. This newsletter highlights a few of the program's outstanding achievements, along with summaries of performance indicators that illustrate how well the FNFP met its objectives. As well, three 'success stories' related to First Nation forestry activities are presented. Two communities, the Pikangikum First Nation and the Naicatchewenin First Nation in Ontario received FNFP funding to assist them with several important projects as part of their overall forestry planning. The third story describes the partnership between four First Nations located in the Yukon Territory and the work they are doing under Natural Resources Canada's Sustainable Communities Initiative.Inside:Five Successful Years: What Did We Accomplish?Whitefeather Forest: Land of Economic Opportunity for the Pikangikum First NationNaicatchewenin First Nation Negotiates Major AgreementsCentral Yukon Sustainable Communities InitiativeRecent Publications: Ordering Information
