Students in Business

Canada/Nova Scotia Business Service Centre

Last Verified: 2005-03-31

The Students In Business program will help you to create your own job anywhere in the province, encourage you to consider business and entrepreneurship as a career option, help you to ease your financial burden at the post-secondary level at community colleges, universities, private trade schools and other recognized post-secondary institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

Students must be:

- be a student who has passed your 15th birthday but has not reached your 30th birthday
- attend, or plan to attend, high school or a recognized post-secondary educational institution in the fall
- be a resident of Nova Scotia for six consecutive months prior to applying

Eligible Activities

All types of businesses that are considered to be desirable and essential to your local community will be considered. These include sole proprietorships, student cooperatives, partnerships and corporations.

Summary

Students in Business can provide:

- access to sources of start-up information and advice, and mentoring by interested experienced entrepreneurs

- up to $5,000 per business in the form of a non-interest bearing loan, which must be repaid based on terms negotiated with the Delivery Agent.

Assistance can be applied against start-up capital, lease hold improvements, equipment, inventory and working capital associated with the running of your business, which could include owners drawing and other wage costs. There are few restrictions on what the loan can be used for which will be discussed with you at the time of your application.

Visit www.studentsinbusiness.ca to download an application package, access the on-line glossary and sample worksheets.
