Overview
Community and Rural Development

Community and Rural Development implements, assists, and supports the departments efforts at the community level. It manages provincial government economic development activity in rural Nova Scotia. Core functions are undertaken in close support with Nova Scotia Business Inc. and complement the efforts of other government departments and jurisdictions.

Community and Rural Development's office network helps communities and business organizations participate actively in their own economic development. Working with regional development authorities, communities of interest, and geographic communities, staff continually seeks to capitalize on strengths and opportunities to grow the rural economy.

Core functions:
  • Knowledge management and policy implementation
  • Opportunity identification
  • Regional planning for economic growth
  • Communities in transition
By carrying out these core functions, the branch acts as a resource of the department to be applied in rural Nova Scotia and as a resource of rural Nova Scotia to the department.
