School Tours
While tours of the Centre Block are offered to school groups throughout
the year, groups visiting Parliament from September to April
can choose a grade-specific tour. Searching for Symbols (grades
K-3, cycle 1 in Quebec) and Follow that Bill (grades 4-6, cycles 2
and 3 in Quebec) are interactive, curriculum-based tours designed
to introduce students to Canada's Parliament using props and role
play.
Primary level
- Searching
for Symbols Tour
Your students will be challenged to use their detective
skills to seek out and identify Canadian symbols at the Centre Block.
- Pre- and Post-Visit Resources
To enhance your visit to Parliament, use our primary
level educational
programs and products to teach students more about Canada’s
Parliament before or after your visit.
Junior level
- Follow
that Bill Tour
Your students will select a ‘bill’ and take
it through all of the steps necessary to become a law.
- Pre- and Post-Visit Resources
To enhance your visit to Parliament, use our junior
level educational
programs and products to teach students more about Canada’s
Parliament before or after your visit.
What you should know before
arriving with your class
- School visits are most popular in the springtime and are often
booked months in advance. If possible, consider bringing your class
earlier in the school year.
- All groups with more than 10 people are required to make a
reservation in advance. Please refer to Group
Reservations for detailed booking information.
- Only authorized vehicles are allowed on Parliament Hill. Refer
to the map of Ottawa for information on bus
drop-off locations (offsite link).
- Allow plenty of time from your drop-off time to the beginning
of your tour (for unloading, viewing the sights, discussions, walking
to the designated entrance, security screening, etc.).
- Arrive early and expect delays. All visitors share the same security
screening facilities.
- To help the security screening go as smoothly as possible, do
not bring backpacks inside the Centre Block.
- The use of cameras and video recorders is permitted throughout
the building, except in the public
galleries.
- Please be aware that guided tours may change in content, be re-routed
or be cancelled without notice at any time due to parliamentary
activity. See Visitor News for
the latest tour updates.
