The Office of the Employer Adviser (OEA) is an independent agency of the Ontario Ministry of Labour.  It provides expert, confidential advice to any size employer.  It provides mediation, negotiation and representation services throughout the workplace safety and insurance system, primarily to employers who employ fewer than 100 employees.  The OEA does not charge any fees for its services because it is funded through the premiums or administration fees that employers pay to the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB).

Expert advice is available to any size employer in Ontario.  Mediation, negotiation and representation services are provided primarily to employers with fewer than 100 employees

Summary

Advice
The OEA operates a toll-free Advice Centre that has professional advisers who are experienced in all aspects of workplace safety and insurance and can:

  • provide employers with advice on claims and revenue matters;
  • help to resolve disputes early in the process and ensure that employers are treated fairly at all levels in the system; and
  • help employers get injured workers back to work.

Education
The OEA has publications available on its web site that are designed to meet the day-to-day needs of employers regarding the workplace safety & insurance system.

Representation
The OEA provides mediation, negotiation and representation at appeals, and intervenes on the employer's behalf, at the WSIB and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT).
