The Future of E-Learning and Campusdirect

Campusdirect is the online campus of the Canada School of Public Service. This e-learning portal is for public service employees across Canada and around the world. It's the place to be for those who want to take their learning to the next level with e-learning products that are available just-in-time, and just-in-case. And because it's Internet-based, it's very easy to access.

Federal public service employees have free access to the Core Library, which contains over 350 English and French e-learning products. Other public service employees can obtain access through a Corporate Agreement or Bulk Purchase.

Above all, Campusdirect provides content to address the common learning needs of all public service employees.

Successes

Since the launch of Campusdirect on April 28, 2003, we've grown by leaps and bounds. What began as a pilot project with 160 e-learning products has expanded into a permanent program offering over 350 online learning resources.

By the end of our first year, we had two corporate clients and about 10,800 members. A year later, as of May 2005, those numbers had jumped to 12 corporate clients and more than 20,000 members.

Client Focus

The success of Campusdirect is due in large part to our client focus. Our Contact Centre and client service team have been available to support learners from day one. We've even hit the road to visit clients on their own turf. In 2005, we travelled from coast to coast to coast with “From Idea to Implementation,” a seminar to help clients develop their own e-learning environments and practices. And our client service team continues to travel, delivering live orientation sessions to help clients get the most out of the program.

As part of our continuous improvement program, Campusdirect regularly seeks the advice of e-learning experts and, of course, input from our clients. The E-Learning Models Advisory Group, made up of learning specialists within the federal and provincial public service, provides advice on how to maximize the use and effectiveness of e-learning.

The Campusdirect User Group allows our corporate clients to share best practices and offer suggestions on how to improve our products and services. We also have a Technology Working Group to help organizations work through network and access issues.

It's all apart of our mandate to provide high-quality e-learning products and services to public service employees.

The Future of E-Learning and Campusdirect

Part of Campusdirect's mission is to explore the many emerging technologies and tools in e-learning. One of the new services we are offering is a blended learning format, or what we call Online Facilitated Workshops. In these sessions, the learner uses online courses and attends facilitated sessions (online and in the classroom). The result is a convenient, and highly effective learning program.

We're also expanding our reach beyond the federal level. Ontario Public Service employees have access to Campusdirect through their Intranet site, MyOPS, and the province of Saskatchewan offers access through its Learning Portal site. Municipalities can also provide their employees with access.
