Privacy Notice

The Government of Canada and the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) are committed to providing visitors with Web sites that respect their privacy. This page summarizes the privacy policy and practices for the Campusdirect Web site.

The Campusdirect Web site does not automatically gather any specific personal information from you, such as your name, phone number or email address. We would only obtain this type of information if you supply it. CSPS's authority for the collection and use of personal information is based on its training mandate and powers under sections 4 and 5 of the Canada School of Public Service Act

All personal information created, held or collected by CSPS is protected under the federal Privacy Act. This means that at any point of collection you will be asked for consent to collect your information, and you will be informed of the purpose for which it is being collected and how to exercise your right of access to that information. On the Campusdirect Web site, these collection points are at the stages of becoming a member and subscribing to Campusdirect courses. Please note that in some cases, information may be disclosed without your consent for purposes not outlined in these Statements pursuant to subsection 8(2) of the Privacy Act.

Campusdirect may report aggregate information to government bodies and others for statistical purposes in a way that does not allow individual identification. Campusdirect will notify individuals if personal information has been erroneously disclosed or new uses or disclosures of personal information are contemplated.

The Canada School of Public Service employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. This software receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer that has contacted our Web site, the date and time of the visit, and the pages visited. We make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our site unless an attempt to damage the site has been detected.

The Canada School of Public Service does not normally use "cookies" to track how our visitors use this site or to determine sites previously visited. (A "cookie" is a file that may be placed on your hard drive without your knowledge by a Web site to allow it to monitor your use of the site.) The Campusdirect Web site does use cookies that may remain on your hard drive after the session. The cookies do not contain any identifiable personal information and are only used to assist our server in your navigation of the site. Deleting the cookies after a session will not affect future visits to the site.

Information on individual visitors is used by the Canada School of Public Service employees who need to know the information in order to respond to your request or to ensure the security of this system. We only share the information you give us with another government organization if your inquiry relates to that organization.

The two Privacy Notice Statements contained in the Campusdirect Web site provide details on the sharing of information on individual members.  These Statements must be accepted prior to member registration and access to products or services, respectively. They can also be accessed through the Privacy Notice link on each page of the site after log in.

Information you send to Campusdirect is not encrypted. You should send confidential or personally identifiable information only when necessary.

Campusdirect will take appropriate action against unlawful or unacceptable activities on Campusdirect electronic tools, such as message boards, forums or "chat rooms."  Unlawful or unacceptable activities include those listed in the federal Policy on the Use of Electronic Networks.

Campusdirect has developed a Privacy Code to apply to its general operations.  A Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) was conducted on Campusdirect and approved by the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Campusdirect has subsequently taken actions to remedy or mitigate the issues raised in the PIA. A summary of the PIA is available here.

Questions or comments regarding this policy or the administration of the Privacy Act in the Canada School of Public Service may be directed to the Privacy Co-ordinator by email to info@csps-efpc.gc.ca or by calling (613) 995-2263 or writing to the Canada School of Public Service, 373 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, K1N 6Z2.
