Citizens are expecting enhanced access to government information, improved citizen-centred, integrated services - anytime, anywhere and in the official language of their choice. This course provides participants with a basic understanding of the strategic role of information management in the GC and a fundamental knowledge of the GC's IM principles and IM infrastructure. They will also acquire an awareness of the different institutional and individual responsibilities and accountabilities for information management within their operational environment. The course promotes a community-wide approach to the co-ordinated management of government information and information-based services to Canadians in a multi-jurisdictional technology-facilitated environment. An underlying theme of the course is the application of contemporary values, ethics and competencies such as communications skills to manage information in support of the business of government and to better serve Canadians. As one of two IM foundation courses, it will establish a base for the development of IM job competencies. Note:Participants will be asked to complete a pre-course assignment that will take approximately two hours to complete.
