About the Acts

This section contains information about the Competition Bureau's responsibilities for the administration and enforcement of the Competition Act, the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act (non-food products), the Textile Labelling Act and the Precious Metals Marking Act.

Our Approach

In this section, you will find information regarding the Competition Bureau's approach to the administration and enforcement of our laws, which is based on five principles: confidentiality, fairness, predictability, timeliness, and transparency.

You will also find information on how the Bureau proceeds when it is determined that a complaint needs further investigation as well as the tools available and used by the Bureau for compliance, enforcement and education.

In the Courts

This section contains links to the various courts where you can view the judgements, court orders and consent agreements related to cases involving the Bureau. It also contains summaries of judgments and orders issued by the courts including consent agreements filed with them for registration as well as matters currently before the courts.

You will also find a quarterly report listing the cases that are presently before the courts and tribunals along with upcoming hearing dates, and the current status of the file. This information is particularly useful as basis for more research elsewhere. The report is updated quarterly

Discontinued Cases

This section contains exemples of cases where the Commissioner of Competition ended an inquiry initiated under the Competition Act because of  insufficient evidence to institute proceedings before the courts or to refer a matter to the Attorney General or if the matter is otherwise concluded through an alternative case resolution.

Compliance and Advocacy

This section illustrates the various methods used by the Competition Bureau's to either promote, educate and ensure compliance with the law. You will find summaries of Alternative Case Resolutions, Written Opinions as well as Interventions from the Bureau.

Penalties Imposed by the Court

This section summarizes penalties imposed by the courts to businesses and individuals in relation to contraventions under the legislation enforced by the Bureau.
