The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has major research institutes studying hydrography, biological science, and physical and chemical science.

Summary

Hydrography is the science of surveying and charting bodies of water (see the document Canadian Hydrographic Service.

Biological science covers resource assessment, fisheries biology, biological oceanography, aquaculture, and habitat science.

Physical and chemical science includes oceanographic research. DFO's researchers examine the oceans influence on the atmosphere, the climate, the fish stocks, and the non-renewable resource activities.
