Eligibility Criteria

  • Canadian industry;
  • universities;
  • government.

Summary

The Institute's program encompasses artificially structured materials, devices and processes, device integration, and exploratory applications. In addition, the Institute assists in the development of an expanded technological base through participation in and support of Canadian consortia and through direct interaction with industrial clients and partners.

The Institute has four major programs:

  • Optical Communications;
  • Multimedia Components;
  • Wireless Communication;
  • Exploratory Research.

What kind of services are available?
The Institute provides access to special facilities and expertise where equivalent services are not available from Canadian industry.

Client services are available in the following areas:

  • characterization of surfaces and interfaces and thin films including depth profiling;
  • compositional and structural electrical and optical characterization of semiconductor structures and devices;
  • design and fabrication of optical thin films;
  • electron ion beam lithography;
  • prototype electronic and optoelectronic device fabrication;
  • custom epitaxial growth on GaAs, InP and III-V semiconductors;
  • computer simulation for design of optical multilayer systems, semiconductor wave guides, and quantum well lasers;
